- LETTERS, Page 8Choices for Cambodia

- I was disappointed by Strobe Talbott's piece "The Killing
- Fields Revisited" (WORLD, May 1) because he did not call for a
- national reconciliation of all Cambodia's warring factions. He
- noted that the U.S. could back a three-part coalition that
- included the two non-Communist groups and the Vietnamese-backed
- leaders in Phnom Penh. That would create a bloody civil war once
- the Vietnamese withdraw later this year. That conflict can be
- avoided only if the Vietnamese accept the presence of an
- international peacekeeping force to prevent any one faction from
- seizing power after they pull out. The people want the
- Vietnamese out of their country, and they want unity for all
- Cambodians.
